The Project

The concept of Formula SAE

Formula SAE – Students of Automotive Industry - is an international engineering design competition where teams representing several universities are challenged to design, fabricate, develop and compete with a formula type race car.

The prototype must be rule complaint and is judged in two type of events: Dynamic (Skid pad, autocross, acceleration, and endurance) and static events (Business plan presentation, cost and manufacturing, and engineering design).

The competition is split into 3 classes: Internal combustion engine, electric, and finally driverless.

Formula SAE encompasses all aspects of a business including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, management, and fund raising. Therefore, to ensure the success of the project, the team must consist of members from different disciplines working together in harmony.

The organization

The team is funded by Metropolia UAS in addition to several sponsors who provide us with funding, materials, services or training.

The Team

The project is 100% run by students of Metropolia UAS and other universities in the Helsinki area. The team consists of members from the Automotive, electronics, mechanical, and business departments all working in an international setting as part of 10 main subsystems: frame, suspension and steering, aerodynamics, composites, brakes, drivetrain, cooling, electrics, media, and marketing.
